Yale beats Baylor in first round of NCAA basketball tournament

Another upset for a Texas team in the NCAA basketball tournament – Yale beat Baylor 79-75 in the first round. 

At the half, Yale led Baylor 39-36. Only a few minutes into the second half, Baylor’s Ishmail Wainright made a two-point jump shot to tie the score at 40-40. The game remained neck and neck until there was eight minutes left in the game. Yale made several shots leading up to the eight-minute mark that put them ahead 60-50.

With 1:12 left in the game, Jake Lindsey made a two-point layup with an assist from Wainright to put the Bears only two points behind Yale 72-70. In the last minute of the game, Baylor player Lester Medford made two point layup. Yale still pulled ahead with Makai Mason making two free throw shots. Baylor wasn’t giving up with 15 seconds to go Wainright with another assist to Taurean Prince, he the makes three-point jump shot, putting the score at 76-75.

With three seconds left in the game, a personal foul was called on Baylor’s Johnathan Motley. Yale’s Brandon Sherrod made both free throws, giving Yale a win with a final score of 79-75.
