A 34-year old woman tubing with friends in Barton Springs died Monday after being overtaken by waters.
The Austin Fire Department received a call about the woman at 8:15 p.m. Monday. They were on scene by 8:20 p.m. The Austin Police Department aided in the search for the woman.
Authorities say she was tubing from Twin Falls to Barton Creek when the incident occurred.
According to a AFD spokesperson on the scene, the recent flooding in the area played a factor in the dangerous conditions.
Because of heavy localized flooding in the Austin-area, the Lower Colorado River Authority Management Team and the City of Austin’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management have closed off access to some of the city’s waterways. Barton Creek was not included in the closures.
