A woman wielding two knives when she walked into the Arlington Police Department headquarters was tased Tuesday after she failed to comply with police orders.
The Arlington Police Department issued a press release Thursday detailing the incident. At approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, police say the woman entered the front doors at police headquarters holding two knives above her head.
The only other person inside the lobby during the encounter was the front desk officer. The officer gave commands telling the woman to drop the knives.
The woman then walked towards the officer, who was separated by a large desk partition and the lobby area. The officer called for backup and began again telling the woman to back away and drop the knives.
The woman did not comply with the command and began making thrusting motions with the knives toward the officer. The officer remained calm and waited for backup to arrive. As several officers arrived, they formulated a plan and began yelling commands to her as well to drop the weapons but she would not drop the knives.
One officer was able deploy his taser to defuse the situation and safely take the woman into custody.
The woman was arrested without further incident and no one was injured.
As of Thursday afternoon, she remained in the Arlington Jail on one count of terroristic threat.
