Woman rescued from Concho River after wheelchair malfunctions

A 67-year-old woman was rescued from the Concho River by San Angelo Police and Fire departments Tuesday afternoon after her wheelchair rolled off the bank and into the water.

A San Angelo Police officer at the scene said according to a witness across the river, the woman called for help as her chair was going down towards the river bank. The witness went to the scene in his vehicle after seeing her roll into the water.

The officer said it appears that the woman’s wheelchair had some sort of malfunction.

The woman was transported to Shannon Medical Center with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Initially, SAPD Officer E. McAndrews jumped in the water to assist the woman and waited for assistance from the SAFD.
