Wichita Falls man survives tumble into trash compactor

A Wichita Falls man who was apparently sleeping inside a trash dumpster survived when he and the trash in the bin were dumped into a trash truck, compacted and then hauled to a transfer station Friday.

As reported by Times Record News, witnesses saw the man, who appeared to be in his 60s, fall from the trash truck into the pit and immediately called for help.

Emergency responders lowered a basket into the pit to rescue the unidentified man, who was conscious and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

If the man had not been spotted falling into the pit, he could have been placed in another compactor before being loaded onto a truck and taken to a landfill.
