Vehicle and foot pursuit leads to drug arrest near North Monroe Street

A 29-year-old San Angelo man is facing multiple charges after he fled a traffic stop and crashed into a residence in northwest San Angelo Friday morning.

Just after 1 a.m., San Angelo Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the driver of a blue 1998 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck near N. Jefferson and Walnut Street but the driver failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

Shortly after the pursuit began, the driver bailed out of the truck and ran. The truck continued on and collided with landscaping and the front porch of a residence located in the 600 block of N. Jackson Street. No residents were injured as a result of the crash.

Police quickly established a perimeter and the driver was located hiding behind a vehicle in an alley near the 700 block of N. Monroe.  The driver was identified as Christopher M. Lopez, who was wanted on four outstanding warrants.

During a search of the truck, officers located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and tools associated with burglary.

Lopez was arrested for his warrants, Evading Arrest Detention, Duty Upon Striking a Fixture >=$200, and Third Degree Felony Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1.  Lopez was transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.
