UPDATE: San Angelo Gives extended 24 more hours

UPDATE: San Angelo Gives, an online 24-hour online donation drive, will be extended for 24 hours because of technical difficulties.

People donating online at sanangelogives.org experienced long wait times Tuesday. Some of the donations did not go through because of the technical difficulties with the website. Organizers say individuals still donating will have 24 more hours to do so.

ORIGINAL STORY: The San Angelo Area Foundation is hosting the second annual San Angelo Gives, a 24-hour online fundraising event, on Tuesday.

Organizers say the purpose of San Angelo Gives is to allow individuals to make a philanthropic impact by supporting local nonprofit organizations whose mission aligns with their passions.

Beginning at midnight Tuesday people can go to sanangelogives.org and find a local nonprofit to which they would like to donate. Organizers say it is a day of giving to celebrate the nonprofits in our community, a chance to raise thousands of dollars and recognize the impact that individuals can make in our community when people join together. This year’s goal is to raise $1 million.

There are more than 130 local nonprofit organizations people can choose to donate to. The San Angelo Area Foundation and partners will add additional money for every $10 donated. Charities can also win cash prizes during the event.

In 2015, San Angelo Gives raised $787,000 for more than 100 local nonprofits with 3,296 donations in 24 hours.
