ORIGINAL STORY: The San Angelo Area Foundation is hosting the second annual San Angelo Gives, a 24-hour online fundraising event, on Tuesday.
Organizers say the purpose of San Angelo Gives is to allow individuals to make a philanthropic impact by supporting local nonprofit organizations whose mission aligns with their passions.
Beginning at midnight Tuesday people can go to sanangelogives.org and find a local nonprofit to which they would like to donate. Organizers say it is a day of giving to celebrate the nonprofits in our community, a chance to raise thousands of dollars and recognize the impact that individuals can make in our community when people join together. This year’s goal is to raise $1 million.
There are more than 130 local nonprofit organizations people can choose to donate to. The San Angelo Area Foundation and partners will add additional money for every $10 donated. Charities can also win cash prizes during the event.
In 2015, San Angelo Gives raised $787,000 for more than 100 local nonprofits with 3,296 donations in 24 hours.
