UPDATE: Christoval Independent School District schools have been given the all clear after a search of campuses were conducted Thursday. Early Thursday, a report of a possible bomb threat to the district was made.
Lt. Christina Lopez, public information officer for the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, said that at approximately 9:05 a.m. Thursday, a call was received by the TGCSO, in reference to a possible bomb threat at Christoval ISD. Deputies were dispatched to CISD.
School administrators, upon learning of the possible threat, per school protocol, evacuated students. CISD elementary students were on the high school campus for a field day when the call was received. Elementary school students were evacuated to Christoval’s Baptist Church, secondary school students were evacuated to the Christoval Community Center.
During the investigation, Lopez said, it was determined that a 16-year old student had posted a video on a social media site and the post showed what he described as an explosive device. The TGCSO then contacted Goodfellow Air Force Base’s 17th Security Force Squadron for their assistance. The squadron conducted a sweep of the buildings and school grounds.
Once the grounds were cleared, CISD Superintendent David Walker notified faculty, staff and students that the school has been reopened so that they may retrieve personal belongings.
The 16-year old student has been arrested and was released to the Tom Green County Juvenile Justice Center, charged for the threat.
Agencies who provided assistance to the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office were the GAFB 17th Security Forces Squadron, Christoval and Pecan Valley volunteer fire departments, the Texas Rangers and the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Special Rangers Unit.
The case remains under investigation and no further information is available for release.
