United Blood Services issues emergency critical appeal for all blood types

United Blood Services has issued an emergency critical appeal for all blood types. Donors of all blood types are urged to give blood now.

UBS said that current forecasting projects a large shortfall through the remainder of the summer. The center said they are currently meeting patient needs but there is a possibility that the shortfall could affect patient care.

The critical need is present across the United States, UBS said.

Reserves are at less than one day’s supply on shelves currently. Because it takes 24-36 hours to test and process each blood donation prior to release to patients, blood is being transfused as fast as UBS can provide it to hospitals.

Several blood drives are planned for the weekend:

10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. – Tom Green County Courthouse, 124 E. Beauregard Ave.

SATURDAY
