United Blood Services continues emergency critical appeal for all blood types

United Blood Services is continuing its emergency critical appeal for all blood types. Donors of all blood types are urged to give blood now.

UBS said that current forecasting projects a large shortfall through the remainder of the summer. The center said they are currently meeting patient needs but there is a possibility that the shortfall could affect patient care.

The critical need is present across the United States, UBS said. Every two seconds in the United States, there is a patient in need of blood.

Reserves are at less than one day’s supply on shelves currently. Because it takes 24-36 hours to test and process each blood donation prior to release to patients, blood is being transfused as fast as UBS can provide it to hospitals.

Appointments are highly recommended by UBS, however, walk-ins are welcome.

A mobile blood drive is planned for 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Icon Cinema, 2020 N. Bryant Blvd. Donors will receive a Icon gift card which includes a free large popcorn and T-shirt.

To make an appointment for the blood center or the mobile drive, go to bloodhero.com or call 877-827-4376.
