The UK has a new prime minister: Theresa May accepts Queen’s appointment

The United Kingdom has a new prime minister after leader of the Conservative party, Theresa May, has accepted an appointment from Buckingham Palace.

May’s appointment comes on the heels of the resignation of former Prime Minister David Cameron following the nation’s exit from the European Union.

May will be the 13th prime minister under Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

She is only the second female British prime minister, following in Margaret Thatcher’s footsteps.
