Two die in truck/motorcycle collision on Hwy 87N

The driver and passenger of a Honda Shadow motorcycle died after being struck by a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 87N southbound Tuesday afternoon.

The collision occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday just north of the Tom Green County line into Coke County. The motorcycle was occupied by a male and female traveling on U.S. Hwy 87N. The 2015 Dodge Ram pickup was occupied by two males.

“The Honda Shadow had just pulled out onto U.S. 87 traveling southbound from the rest area.” said Justin Baker, Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer. “For unknown reasons, the vehicle was traveling at a slow rate of speed and the driver of the 2015 Dodge Ram pickup observed the motorcycle in the inside lane.”

“For unknown reasons, the motorcycle changed lanes resulting in a rear-end collision with the motorcycle.”

Both the male and female on the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the truck were not injured.

The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as 36-year old Jon Levie Phillips of San Angelo. His passenger was identified as 31-year old Danielle Renee Bailey of Odessa.

Baker said the case remains under investigation. No citations were issued at the scene.
