An unusually high number of tornadoes swept through Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi Tuesday and Wednesday, killing five people and destroying homes and businesses.
Patch.com reports three people were killed in a Jackson County mobile home park and four children were critically injured in neighboring DeKalb County when twister struck a 24-hour daycare. A firefighter and his wife were killed in Tennessee and another nine Tennesseans were injured.
The National Weather Service in Nashville is traveling to Coffee County, Giles County and Cumberland County today to investigate the impact of the storms.
Six tornadoes were confirmed in Mississippi, but no injuries were reported.
