The Tom Green County Crisis Intervention Unit is recruiting volunteers for its fall training class. Volunteers are civilian first responders who provide on scene crisis intervention with victims of crime or crisis, when requested by law enforcement.
Training begins Feb. 13 and runs Saturdays through March 19.
Volunteers will be able to sign up for 12-hour shifts after the 36-hour training is completed.
Rita Guthrie, Crisis Intervention Unit, said volunteers wear pagers and will always respond in pairs. Anyone who can pass a background check and is 18 years of age is welcome to enroll.
