Tom Green County courts: Man receives jail time for pointing a weapon at pedestrians

Virgil Chapman Jr. entered a guilty plea in exchange for three years in prison on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. 

According to the arrest report, on May 21, officers were called to 1205 N. Chadbourne St. in reference to an altercation. On scene, officers learned from the victims that the engaged couple was walking down when Chapman began yelling at them and pointed a handgun in the victims direction.

Chapman was later apprehended at 1004 Volney St. He was in possession of the firearm and admitted to the crime in an interview with police.

Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second degree felony charge punishable by two-20 years of confinement and a fine up to $10,000.
