This week’s rainfall totals from around the Concho Valley, so far

It’s been a rainy start to the work week. From midnight until 5 p.m. Wednesday, San Angelo has received 1.82 inches of rain and there is more rain in the forecast.

The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a flash flood watch in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday.

Another round of strong storms is forecast to move through the Concho Valley and surrounding areas beginning Wednesday evening. Some of these storms could dump another 1 to 3 inches of rain. Many locations around the area have already received over an inch of rain in the last 24 hours so any additional rain is expected to run off and produce flash flooding.

“The last 24 hours the area could see more impact is Irion County, northern Edwards Plateau and the northwest Hill Country where they already have seen around four and five inches. Those are the areas with the greatest threat of flash flooding. We could see some minor flooding in San Angelo but still be cautious,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mark Cunningham.

A flash flood watch means that conditions could develop that lead to flash flooding. Do not ever drive across a flooded street or low water crossing. It only takes a foot of moving water to wash away a vehicle.
