Texas Rangers investigate officer-involved shooting in Odessa

The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting of a 50-year old Odessa man that occurred on March 10.

A release from the Texas Department of Public Safety said that at approximately 5 p.m. March 10, the Texas Rangers were called to investigate the incident.

According to a preliminary investigation, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call in the 1200 block of Douglas Avenue in Odessa. Odessa Police Department officers and the U.S. Marshals Service, made contact with Jason Meador, who was threatening to harm himself, and attempted to negotiate with him.

Details in the release say that according to officer statements, Meador brandished a handgun in the direction of police officers and was shot by law enforcement.

He was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation remains open and no additional information is available from DPS at this time.
