Texas governor receiving treatment for 2nd and 3rd degree burns to legs

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio Monday where he is receiving additional treatment on the second and third degree burns he sustained on both legs below his knees and to both feet after coming into contact with scalding water.

After a doctor’s examination, it was determined Abbott has developed a minor infection as a result of the burns. According to a media release, the governor has been admitted overnight for treatment. On Tuesday, Abbott will undergo skin grafts to repair damage to his feet. After the procedure, under local anesthesia, he’s expected to be discharged and return to Austin.

Because of the medical treatment, Abbott will not be able to attend Tuesday’s memorial service at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas for the law enforcement officers who were killed Thursday in the line of duty. Abbott will send his wife, Cecilia, in his place.
