Texas DPS seizes $1.5 million in cocaine during traffic stop in Potter County

The Texas Department of Public Safety seized more than 25 lbs of cocaine Friday after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle in Potter County.

According to a press release from the department, at approximately 9:03 p.m. Friday, a DPS trooper stopped a 2013 BMW sedan that was traveling east on Interstate 40 near Amarillo, for a traffic violation.

The trooper found several plastic-wrapped packages of cocaine inside false compartments that were accessed through the car’s wheel wells. The cocaine estimated street value is approximately $1.5 million.

The driver, Cosme Cisneros, 32, and passenger Uriel Nunez Hernandez, 27, both of Atlanta, Georgia, were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. They were booked into the Potter County Jail.

The drugs were allegedly being transported from Bakersfield, California, to Chicago, Illinois.
