A Texas Department of Criminal Justice bus transporting inmates from a facility in Abilene to Huntsville Friday morning crashed injuring multiple people and killing one person. The two-vehicle crash occurred in Comanche County.
TDCJ public information officer Robert Hurst confirmed that there were 31 inmates and two correctional officers on board the bus.
One person, who was not a driver or passenger of the bus was killed in the crash. The female driver of a pickup truck that collided with the bus died at the scene.
Hurst said 21 offenders were transported to hospitals and 10 were being transported to a Gatesville TDCJ facility, which has an infirmary. He added that all injuries from occupants on the bus were “non-life threatening.”
Hurst said that the Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
