In an effort to promote retail entrepreneurism among the youth in San Angelo, Sunset Mall is inviting children ranging from six to 18 years old to participate in a program called “Kids, Inc.”
The winners of the competition, sponsored by 1st Community Federal Credit Union, will have the opportunity to set up shop at the mall to learn about how to manage a business, how to make money and how to have fun while doing so.
Participants may offer a service or resell a product purchased from a wholesaler or create a product from scratch. There should be minimal parental involvement.
To qualify for the event, a business plan must be submitted June 10-30 via Sunset Mall’s Facebook page facebook.com/SunsetMall, where a link to the entry form will be available.
The mall’s Facebook followers will vote for their favorite business ideas July 1-10.
The top ten winners will be invited, if approved by Sunset Mall, to a one-day “business showcase” where they can sell their products and keep the earnings from the sale.
The showcase will take place from noon to 4 p.m. July 23 inside Sunset Mall.
“We are excited to offer this opportunity to young budding retail entrepreneurs,” said Sabrina Tatsch, Sunset Mall Marketing and Specialty Leasing Manager. “Allowing kids to sell their products or services in a retail environment will give them a real taste of what it takes to run a business. We’re looking forward to hosting these ‘merchants of the future’.”
