Students flock to Christmas at Old Fort Concho

Fort Concho held its annual Student Day at Christmas at Old Fort Concho Friday.

Elementary and middle school students from the San Angelo Independent School District spent the morning learning about West Texas in the 1800s through reenactments, music, barrack tours and magic show.

“So far, this has been a great experience overall,” visitor Theresa Smith said. “I think it’s cool that my son was able to come here with his school and learn about the past with a Christmas twist.”

The Fort Concho grounds were full of Christmas garland, trees and lights. Visitors were also able to get a jump start on holiday shopping as various vendors set up shop.

“There’s a lot of people shopping for little gifts and whatnot, but I came for the food.” visitor Sophia Martinez said. “These tamales are delicious, and I might have to come back later for dessert.”

Christmas at Old Fort Concho will continue through Sunday with several events including a pancake breakfast, visit with Santa Claus and Cowboy Church service.
