State trooper wounded by stray bullet on Mexican border

A Texas state trooper was wounded on the Texas-Mexico border Friday after a bullet strayed from a gun battle on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Lieutenant Johnny Hernandez of the Texas Department of Public Safety said the trooper suffered a leg wound.

The state trooper was shot while on foot patrol with the Border Patrol agent in Fronton, about 100 miles north of Brownsville.

Hernandez said it is unclear who was involved in the gunfight, but the incident remains under investigation.

The identity of the trooper has not been revealed.
