A single vehicle collision at approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday closed off an access ramp of the Houston Harte Expressway and shut down the access road to one lane.
According to Officer Brian Bylsma, dispatched to a single vehicle wreck on the entrance ramp to Houston Harte by the intersection of Shiloh and North Adams.
A silver Nissan Xterra was westbound on the access road, saw a vehicle on his right hand side and tried to take the entrance ramp onto the loop and collided with guard rail barrier. The SUV came to rest on the entrance ramp.
The driver of the vehicle was complaining of shoulder and back pain. He was on a stretcher but was taken to the hospital by a personal vehicle. He was the only person in the vehicle.
He was issued a citation for an unsafe lane change and driving while license is suspended.
Speed is not believed to be a factor.
“You are looking at a 40 mile per hour speed zone. If you hit a solid object at 40 miles per hour. It’s estimated that the impact is probably going to be at least double,” said Blysma.
