For the sixth year in a row, Shannon Medical Center is hosting CATCH® in Motion Kid’s Marathon Final Lap Celebration.
The event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 7 at San Angelo Stadium. A new lap starts every 15 minutes.
Kindergarten children through sixth grade students may participate in the final lap and other games and fitness activities.
The press release from Shannon said the idea is that they will run the last .2 miles of a marathon at the event. A marathon is considered to be 26.2 miles. Participants are encouraged to run or walk the 26 miles prior to the Final Lap celebration, but can participate regardless if they make that goal or not.
Upon completion of the lap the children will receive a water bottle they can use to gather signatures from high school and college athletes in the area. First 500 finishers will receive medals and Finisher t-shirts. Parents and students will also have the opportunity to learn about summer programs that will keep students active and motivated.
The program is meant to encourage and form healthy habits early in children’s lives.
