One of the state’s 10 Most Wanted sex offenders is now behind bars after he turned himself in Tuesday in Amarillo.
Thirty-three year old Dustin Ray Smith was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender, evading arrest and probation violation. Because Smith’s arrest was not the result of a tip, no reward will be paid.
According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, in 2012, Smith was convicted of sexual assault of a child after an incident in Potter County involving a 15-year-old girl. His criminal history also includes retaliation and assault. For more information, see his captured bulletin at dps.texas.gov/Texas10MostWanted/capturedDetails.aspx?id=326.
In 2016, DPS and other agencies have arrested six Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, including four sex offenders and two gang members and $12,500 has been paid for tips that resulted in arrests.
