Several dead after Fort Lauderdale airport shooting, gunman arrested

Five people are dead and eight others are injured after a passenger on a flight that landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida opened fire in a baggage claim area Friday.

As reported by WSVN-TV, the shooter was identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago. He was apprehended five minutes after the shooting began.

Officials said Santiago had a gun inside of his checked bag. Once he opened his suitcase at in the Terminal 2 baggage area, the shooting began. Authorities noted that Santiago is former military as an identification card was found on him at the scene.

Multiple sources reported that Santiago was receiving psychological treatment. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and terrorism has not been ruled out.
