Recently released off Broadway and made available to community groups, the San Angelo Broadway Academy is bringing the Tony Award-winning musical School of Rock to San Angelo.
Based on the cult film featuring Jack Black and with a score from Andrew Lloyd Webber, “School of Rock, Youth Production” follows slacker Dewey Finn as he turns a class of straight-A students into an ear-popping, riff-scorching, all-conquering rock band. This brand-new musical opens at Foster Communications Coliseum May 19-21, and for the first time ever, features a live band on stage within the production.
The musical follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn as he poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school in order to make ends meet. When he discovers his fifth graders’ musical talents, he enlists his class to form a rock group and conquer the Battle of the Bands. As Dewey falls for the beautiful headmistress, can he and his students keep this special assignment secret as they learn to fully embrace the empowering message of rock? With the child actors playing their own instruments on stage, the audience is introduced to how life can change for the better through the gift of music.
Bring the whole family out to rock with the San Angelo Broadway Academy in May! Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children 12 and younger and military, and can be purchased in advance online at sabroadwayacademy.org or at the door one hour prior to the performance.
