The San Angelo Police Department is looking for a man they say fled during a traffic stop Monday night. Police say an officer attempted a traffic stop for a vehicle with an expired registration on the 1100 block of Roosevelt Street. When the vehicle pulled into the River Point Apartment complex, the driver exited the vehicle and ran towards the Concho River.

His vehicle, a grey 2004 Dodge Neon, was left in gear and rolled into a tree, narrowly missing a nearby carport.

The driver is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’8″ and 150 lbs with a short haircut. Police say he ran into the Concho and swam to the west bank to avoid detention.

Police established a perimeter of the area and multiple units, including a K9 team, searched for the suspect, who was not located.

Officers searching the vehicle found a loaded handgun, a small amount of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a stolen wallet. They determined that the vehicle registration sticker belonged to another vehicle and subsequently seized the Neon. They attempted to contact the vehicle’s registered owner, without success.
