SAPD recovers stolen painting, continues investigation

A painting, valued at $9,000, that was stolen from City Hall Dec. 30, has been recovered by the San Angelo Police Department.

SAPD detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division have identified the suspect, thanks to multiple tips from the public, a press release from the SAPD said.

The painting, which was on loan from the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, was recovered Thursday morning and is in police custody.

The SAPD said at this time, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

“The Department would like to thank our citizens and media partners for sharing the surveillance video, which had over 49,000 views on Facebook, as well as the information in the press release. This community partnership indisputably led to the painting’s recovery.” the release said.
