The San Angelo Police Department received its second “Re-Recognition Status” from the Texas Police Chiefs Association for its compliance with the Texas Law Enforcement Agency Best Practices Recognition Program. The program is a voluntary process where police agencies prove compliance with 164 Texas law enforcement best practices. The practices were developed by Texas law enforcement professionals to help agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service, reduction of risk and the protection of individual’s rights. Agencies go through a strict reassessment every four years to maintain their status.
Although similar to the national accreditation program, the Best Practices Recognition Program is easier to administer, is lower in cost and is designed specifically to Texas agencies.
More than 50 Texas law enforcement agencies have received recognition since 2006.
San Angelo was the fourth department to earn recognition since the program began.
The SAPD will be formally recognized at the 2016 TPCA annual Conference Awards and luncheon on March 23, in Austin.
