San Angelo Police Department Officers arrested three young men and recovered five stolen guns after a call about suspicious subjects attempting to burglarize vehicles Friday morning at the 2900 block of San Antonio Street.
According to a release issued by SAPD, when officers arrived they learned the subjects had gone to the Greystone Apartment complex and were unloading and taking bags from a red Pontiac G5 into one of the apartments.
After arriving at the complex, officers located the vehicle and detained 19-year-old Lorenzo Sandoval by the vehicle, where they also observed a high-powered rifle in the front passenger compartment. After Sandoval was not able to provide the officers with the gun owner’s name, a consent search was conducted where officers located a small amount of marijuana and a large amount of suspected stolen property.
According to the release, officers received numerous calls about vehicle burglaries matching the description of the red Pontiac while they were checking the rifle’s serial number to determine if it was stolen.
While at the scene, 17-year old Roy Munoz and a 16-year old juvenile exited the apartment. They were also detained. Consent was given to enter the apartment and once officers were inside they discovered an additional amount of suspected stolen property.
After an investigation it was discovered the recovered items were linked to at least eight burglaries from Southland neighborhoods; and Sandoval, Munoz and the 16 year-old were charged with theft of firearm and transported to the Tom Green County Jail and the Juvenile Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing. The lead investigator is Det. Kelly Lajoie. Charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the release.
