SAPD looking for 9/11 memorial vandal(s)

The San Angelo Police Department is looking for the person or persons who destroyed the 9/11 Memorial Monument near the Concho River and San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts over the weekend.

A release from the SAPD’s Public Information Office calls the destruction a “disgraceful act.”

The monument is very unique in that it is one of the few in Texas that has a piece of steel that was acquired from the World Trade Center, Ground Zero in New York City. The piece of steel was stolen and the monumentĀ  was damaged.
The monument was dedicated Sept. 8, 2003, in memory of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
Several community events were held over the weekend leading police to believe someone in attendance may have witnessed the incident.
Anyone with information about the suspect or suspects, or the stolen item, should contact San Angelo Police at 325-481-2718.
