SAPD arrests two men in connection with Preusser Street stabbing

San Angelo Police arrested two men over the weekend in connection with the stabbing of another man at a local apartment complex Christmas evening.

According to a press release from the San Angelo Police Department, Willie Bowman, 53, and Verdell Lewis, 58, both of San Angelo, were arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Their arrests came at the direction of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division after a lengthy investigation at the El CID apartment complex, 317 Preusser St.

The investigation began around 9:40 p.m. when officers were dispatched to Shannon Medical Center for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 27-year-old San Angelo man who had a laceration to his arm. Officers learned the man was cut by a knife following an altercation with Bowman and Lewis outside the man’s apartment.  His wound is said to be non-life threatening.

Around the same time, officers were dispatched to the apartment complex for the report of a fight. Officers discovered the calls were connected. Bowman and Lewis were found at the scene, along with physical evidence of the assault.

Both men were transported to the Tom Green County Jail without incident and are being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.

The men are acquaintances, according to police.
