A 43-year-old San Angelo woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on State Highway 158, 12 miles east of Midland.
According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Rose Mary Contreras of San Angelo was traveling westbound on SH 158 in a 2008 Mazda CX9. A 2001 Freightliner tractor trailer, driven by 54-year-old Adalberto M. Almanza of Euless, was traveling eastbound on SH 158.
Almanza was traveling at an unsafe speed for the wet road conditions, hydroplaned and crossed into the westbound lanes and struck Contreras’ vehicle.
Almanza’s vehicle came to a stop facing west in the north barrow ditch and its trailer detached and stopped facing north across the westbound lanes. The Mazda came to rest facing east in the north barrow ditch.
A 16-year-old passenger in the Mazda received incapacitating injuries in the collision.
The crash was investigated by DPS Trooper Christopher Weimer of Midland with assistance from troopers Lance Billis, Michael Baskerville and Jimmy Mathies, all of Midland, and the Midland County Sheriff’s Office.
