San Angelo police are investigating the death of a 58-year old man as a homicide.
At approximately 4:20 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the Rockbrook Apartments on a call for an assault victim. When they arrived, they met a woman who told them her boyfriend had been assaulted inside their apartment. Police entered the apartment and found the man dead.
The witness told officers she had seen the suspect leaving the scene while she was on her way home and provided a description of the suspect. Based on that, police located the suspect walking on the Houston Harte Expressway near Olive Garden.
The 28-year old male suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police later learned the suspect is the son of the witness.
Detectives Jason Chegwidden and Michael Gaeta responded to the apartments to investigate. Chegwidden is the lead investigator for this case. The cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma, but the cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.
The names of the victim and the suspect are not being released at this time pending further investigation and notification of the victim’s next of kin.
No further information is available for release from the SAPD at this time. More information will be released when it is available.
