The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, in conjunction with Be Theatre, are hosting Family Day The Show Must Go On, a free event, at the museum, 1 Love St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 14.
Be Theatre will have a special performance inside the museum at noon featuring Alyssa Ramirez, who stars in the title role of Junie B. Jones in Be Theatre’s Literature Alive Project.
There will be free art activities in the museum’s Education Studio that will include making an impressionism landscape based on Jose Arpa; creating a repousse theatre mask; sculpting a negative space sculpture; and more.
SAMFA’s current exhibit is “John Raimondi: Drawing to Sculpture” which offers a glimpse inside the mind of a master sculptor as he worked out his ideas on paper and in small models before executing large, public monuments. Also on exhibit is “Jose Arpa: Spanish Painter in Texas.” Arpa was a major Texas artist and teacher who brought impressionism to Texas.
Entry to all galleries is free during Family Day.
The Provisional Class of the Junior League of San Angelo will offer healthy snacks for attendees and will be on-site to educate children about healthy eating through its Kids in the Kitchen program, which was established by the Association of Junior Leagues International, to help combat childhood obesity. JLSA volunteers will be helping attendees assemble a themed snack that can easily be made at home with the recipe. An activity sheet will be distributed at the event.
Family Days are held on the second Saturday of each month and feature a different theme.
