The San Angelo Independent School District was named one of 130 school districts in the nation to receive the 2015 College Board Gaston Caperton Opportunity Honor Roll. San Angelo was one of the 22 in Texas to receive the award and the sole West Texas district named.
The honor roll is based on excellence in creating opportunities for underrepresented students including minorities, low income and first generation college students.
To be considered, the district is required to have increased the number of such students who took the SAT, an AP course and exam, were on-track for college (scoring more than 1,550 on the SAT), scored a 3+ on an AP exam and sent their SAT scores to at least four colleges.
The College Board is the organization which develops and administers college entrance and placement exams including the SAT, PSAT and AP.
