SAFE Recycling Center Closing

The San Angelo Friends of the Environment (SAFE) Recycling Center, located at 702 Warehouse Rd., is officially closing after 28 years in business.

The organization will still host its annual Earth Day event on April 20-21 before shutting down on Sunday, April 22.

SAFE will not be forever gone, however, as it will be reorganizing to change its focus.

The organization will keep the name and continue to serve the community by educating the public on the four “R’s” of Recycling: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover.

SAFE has worked with numerous companies and volunteers throughout the city to better recycling efforts within the community.

Due to this closure, further recycling should be redirected according to the following list:

Butts Recycling 325-653-8957
615 W. 11th Street.
Cardboard, newspaper/magazines, plastic #1 and #2, tin and aluminum cans.

Republic Services will be opening a recycling spot at the county landfill.

Glass recycling will be at Go Green. They will be reopening soon. Please go to their website at
