Russian figure skater Zagitova wins Olympic gold, Medvedeva grabs silver

Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova won a gold medal Friday at the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, earning a total of 239.57 points for short and free programs.

Russian figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva (born in 1999) took home silver with 238.6 points. Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond grabbed a bronze medal (231.02 points).

Fifteen-year-old Zagitova secured the first gold for the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) team in PyeongChang. The OAR team has 14 medals (one gold, five silver and eight bronze).

Earlier, at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Medvedeva and Zagitova were silver winners in team competitions.
