RECALL: Perdue Foods recalls chicken nuggets because of possible contaminant

Perdue Foods, LLC, has issued a recall of approximately 4,530 lbs of chicken nugget products, produced for Applegate Farms, that could be contaminated with plastic.  The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service Saturday. Production date for the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets was Sept. 28, 2015. The recall is for eight-ounce boxed packages containing 18 pieces of “Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets” with the “best before” date of Sept. 27, 2016.

The products have the establishment number “P-2617” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped to retailers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York and Texas.

Consumer complaints of finding small, solid, clear plastic inside the product led to the discovery of the problem.

No reports of adverse reactions related to the consumption of the product have been made. The USDA said anyone concerned with an injury or illness related to eating these products should contact a healthcare provider.

Anyone who has bought this product is urged not to eat the nuggets and the product should be disposed of or returned to the store where it was purchased.
