Updated:  1/16/18

Raymond Alvarado Jr., charged with Captial Murder in the 2016 double homicide on Rio Grande Street, plead guilty to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, according to a press release sent out by the District Attorney’s Office earlier today. (End Update)

Alvarado was arrested by a joint law enforcement fugitive task force Dec. 8, 2016, in Lansing, Michigan.

He was accused of fatally shooting Jimmy Andrew Gonzales and Anthony Martinez, both 28, on Sept. 12, 2016. Three other suspects, Justin Gamez, 27; Ricky Ray Ortegon Zuniga, 25; and Krystal Nicole Sanchez, 27, were arrested and charged in mid-September.

According to a press release from the San Angelo Police Department in early December, the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force began assisting the SAPD in the investigation in late October. The investigation eventually led authorities to believe Alvarado was in the Lansing, Michigan-area, based on a Crime Stoppers tip. The Lansing Area Fugitive Task Force was enlisted to help track Alvarado down.

On Dec. 8, task force members conducted surveillance at an address in Lansing. After several hours, Alvarado was seen leaving the residence and walking away. Marked units assisted the task force in approaching Alvarado and he was subsequently arrested without incident.

He was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury of capital murder of multiple persons.
