Rams undefeated, needs single win to take the title

After Friday and Saturday’s game, the San Angelo State Baseball team remains undefeated in the NCAA DII South Central Regional.

According to a press release issued by Angelo State University, the ASU Baseball team downed No 3. St Edwards 6-4 in the second round of NCAA DII South Central Regional Friday, which resulted in them playing against fellow undefeated No. 7 Lubbock Christian Saturday.

After defeating Lubbock 6-2 Saturday afternoon, they advance to the NCAA DII South Central Regional Championship.

With the win, the Rams climbed to 38-20 on the season.

“We did a lot of good things today. The first thing that comes to mind is Kenton going out and giving us a complete game. Also, to be able to get really aggressive at the plate and get runs early in the game was really big for us,” said head ASU baseball coach Kevin Brooks.

According to Brooks, Kenten stepped up when the team really needed to win at the conference tournament last week, and he did it again at Saturday’s game.

“I think that speaks for what type of competitor he is” Brooks said.

With the loss, Lubbock Christian fell to 37-18 and had to face the winner of the Texas A&M – Kingsville and St. Edward’s elimination game Saturday evening, according to the release.

The winner of the final game on Saturday will move to take on ASU at 1 p.m. Sunday. Because ASU has remained undefeated throughout the tournament, they only need a single win to take the tournament title, said the release.
