The Purple Heart and other commendations awarded to a World War II veteran were found Friday in a Midland dumpster.
As reported by News West 9, Army veteran Gary Kennedy received a call about military commendations found in a trash bin, and decided to take on the task of looking into who they belonged to.
Now, the search is on to find a man named Jim C. Carter or his family.
“You know this is just disgusting,” Kennedy said. “Somebody worked hard for this.”
Soldiers are awarded a Purple Heart when they are injured in combat.
Kennedy said he reached out to several organizations and families to see if Carter or his family can be found, but hasn’t had any luck. Anyone with information regarding Carter is asked to contact Gary Kennedy at 432-230-9078.
