As of 8 a.m. Monday, Uber is said to stop operations and Lyft will be pausing their operation in Austin, after losing in a Proposition 1 voting campaign.
According to multiple sources, Uber and Lyft will be leaving Austin because of the recent Prop 1 loss campaign on Saturday, which imposes fingerprint checks on drivers.
Fifty-six percent voted against Prop 1 and 44 percent voted for the proposition. Only 32,858 people voted on Election Day and more than 55,000 people voted during the early voting period.
This fingerprinting requirement was put forward by Mayor Steve Adler and members of the Austin City Council in 2015.
