Projection: Police Chief race headed to runoff, Carter and Vasquez

There will be a runoff election in the race for San Angelo’s Chief of Police, projects based on exit poll data and early voting totals from the Tom Green County Elections Office Saturday.

While no candidate will eclipse the 50 percent threshold to win the race outright, Tim Vasquez and Frank Carter are projected to hold off Hernandez for the top two spots. Who ends up in the number one and two spots is too close to call at this hour, with Vasquez holding a slight lead over Carter, mostly based on a strong early voting showing.
Saturday’s exit poll data showed Hernandez leading slightly over Carter and incumbent Vasquez, respectively. Jeff Davis is a distant fourth place and projections eliminate him from contention for the runoff.
