President Barack Obama announced in a press conference Wednesday morning that the U.S. is changing its plans on the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
Citing a Taliban resurgence that Obama said is trying to regain territory. Obama will attend a NATO summit Friday in Poland.
Currently, an estimated 9,800 U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan. Previously, the Obama administration said they would decrease to that number to 5,500 at the end of 2016. According to the President, 8,400 will remain in Afghanistan at the end of his term as commander in chief.
