In 1962, President John F Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week. The San Angelo Police Department has scheduled events throughout the week of May 16-20 to recognize local law enforcement.
According to Tracy Gonzalez of the SAPD public information office, the events are meant to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice by losing their lives in the line of duty and to recognize local law enforcement by showing appreciation for the daily sacrifices they make.
