Monday night, San Angelo Police Department received information about a 13-year-old autistic teen who did not make it to his designated area after school. According to a press release from the SAPD, a Nixle alert was sent out to help locate the missing autistic teen.

A lengthy search was conducted near Lee Middle School and McGill Elementary schools, but the search was unsuccessful in this area and surrounding area.

San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a call from a citizen who received a Nixle alert about the missing teen. She redirected the officers in their search to the area of the 4400 Block of Green Valley Trail, where she stated she might have seen the missing teen.

Detective Jake Russell was called out to assist in the investigation of this missing teen. Around 10 p.m. in the Alamo Village Apartment’s parking lot, Russell looked up and found the teen.

“There is no doubt that the young man could still be missing had it not been for the citizen who acted on the Nixle alert and called police,” said Russell.

Detective Russell would like to give full credit to the citizen subscriber and thank the many members of the community who assisted in the search.
