Orange Co. deputy killed in crash during search for suspect who killed Orlando police officer

An Orange County Sheriff’s Office motorcycle deputy who was part of the effort to capture suspect Markeith Loyd, 43, accused in the shooting death of Orlando Police Master Sgt. Deborah Clayton, was killed in a crash Monday while searching for Loyd.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings spoke at a news conference Monday, “We’re sad on this day for many reasons.”

Demings did not release the name of the deputy who was killed.

Both officers were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.

The manhunt for Loyd continues.
